Hemiko, formerly Pinnacle Power was selected by Barratt London to design and build the district heating network comprising 2MW of boilers and CHP feeding 365 apartments, 2 retail units and a supermarket at Acton Western Circus.
Hemiko has helped advise the client on the tertiary systems designed and installed by others to ensure the district heating network will achieve and exceed the design specification. We have managed to keep temperatures and sizes down which has had a big impact on the project.
Our design and installation needed to be in line with the council’s planning conditions so we worked closely with Barratt to ensure we meet the planning condition requirements, liaising directly with the client energy management consultants to meet their requirements
Challenges The bulk of the build of this project was done during the COVID pandemic. This was a major challenge but we remained on programme and budget throughout. This was achieved whilst working within the site restrictions and being able to repeatedly mobilise and demobilise teams as the lock downs progressed and the main client programme shifted.
Due to the sites location next to a major roadway we were extremely limited space on site for storage and deliveries so Pinnacle has had to work closely with the developer when managing material deliveries to site, particularly large materials such as the thermal stores and CHP.
Hemiko worked with the site management team to create QA forms that suited the developer’s requirements including requirements from NHBC, builders’ own requirements and the standard requirements Pinnacle expects in installations to ensure a high-quality, long-life installation. Pinnacle stayed ahead of programme and completed the fit out of the energy centre well in advance of the utility connections being installed
As per the company mantra the partnership approach with the client really paid off. We were working through difficult times and by communicating and trying to understand our clients concerns we were able to deliver a good solution.
